The Way We Were Soundtrack 1974

The Way We Were Soundtrack 1974
A hit movie with a hit song is bound to yield a hit album as well. That's how the soundtrack of The Way We Were came into being. Of course, producer Ray Stark improved his chances for a successful soundtrack by using his power to ensure that Barbra's solo album not have the same title as his soundtrack. Her TWWW album was forced into a title change so that Ray's LP would have a chance to sell more copies. Aside from Barbra, another star emerged on the soundtrack -- composer Marvin Hamlisch. He creates a seamless wall of music that evokes the nostalgia of the 1940's, using his own melodies as well as standards like "Red Sails in the Sunset" and "In the Mood." Undiscovered gem: Barbra's dreamy version of "The Way We Were" here is lovelier than the single.
