Moon Songs and the Barbra Streisand and Audrey Hepburn Connection

Thought of the day... Barbra should have sung "Moon River" (on "The Movie Album") in a medley with "The Moon & I," a cut song from "Yentl." Instead of a sweet rendition of the original, she could have made an interesting pairing of two views of the moon...both in terms of friendship. Since "Moon River" cannot really be mentioned without talking about "Breakfast at Tiffanys" and Audrey Hepburn, here's some Barbra/Audrey connections:

They both were directed by William Wyler in their film debuts, "Funny Girl" and "Roman Holiday," and both won the Oscar as Best Actress for their first films. Thank you, Willie!

Barbra was once rumored to do a remake of "Funny Face," one of Audrey's most wonderful films in which she costarred with the inimitable Fred Astaire. Wisely, Barbra said, "No."

The picture above is Audrey visiting Barbra backstage at "Funny Girl" in October 1964. Audrey was in NYC for the opening of the film version on "My Fair Lady." Speaking of the latter, Barbra nearly sang "Show Me" on "The Broadway Album"…but the song never made the final cut.

  1. Congratulations on your new blog, Allison! Barbra and Audrey have yet another link together: they're both Taureans. :)
